The 4th Annual Sip & Savour Salt Spring united growers, food producers, chefs and vintners from Salt Spring Island with BC vintners in mélanges a trois of culinary magic. About Sip & Savour 2013: On Friday evening, local restaurants hosted Sold Out Wine Maker’s Dinners where the talent of chefs will combined with locally produced ingredients in a winemakers inspired menu. Local, regional and BC vintners were on hand to discuss their wine being served with each course and the chefs discussed the inspiration behind the locally sourced menu. Participating restaurants were: Auntie Pesto’s Café, Rawsome Living Foods and Mistaken Identity Winery. Sip & Savour inspired menus were on offer at other local restaurants including Rock Salt Restaurant, Salt Spring Inn, Harbour House Hotel and Restaruant, Calvin’s Bistro and Hasting House Country House Hotel.
The adventure continued Saturday from 9 am with the Famous Saturday Market Salt Spring , where everything is grown, harvested, created and made on Salt Spring Island. With the bounty of the Fall Harvest upon us, the Market was brimming with fresh, local fruit, vegetables and grains grown in our unique micro-climate.
The magic continued Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 pm as the Salt Spring Farmers Institute was transformed into a foodies dream Grazing Experience. Fine BC wines were sipped and deliciously prepared local and regional foods were savoured. Attendees at this Sold Out event reaping the rewards as vintners, chefs, and growers work together as trios, sharing each other’s gifts to create tasting plates. Visitors saw the fresh raw ingredients, talked to the farmers directly, asked the chefs about the preparation, and discussed with the vintners the art of matching quality BC wines with delicious food. For just $55.00 per person plus gst, guests shared the very best produced by the region’s famous farms, inspired chefs, and local and regional vineyards.
To finish the day was the Sold Out Locavore Dinner and Dance at Moby’s Pub. This upscale and fun Salt Spring centric dinner had great music for dancing – all within walking distance of Ganges! Guests enjoy a 3-course dinner with a glass of BC sparkling wine on arrival. Live music featured the Latin rhythms of Salt Spring’s Jose Sanchez and the Cuban Party Band and they have everyone up and dancing. Suggested attire was “Salt Spring Formal” ie: anything you’d like to wear! 6pm – 1 am (Dinner 7-9) Tickets were $55 plus gst.
As a bonus to the Sip & Savour Salt Spring weekend was the 15th Annual Salt Spring Apple Festival which took place on Sunday. Attendees toured various farms and attend the main event at Fulford Hall.
